Otago Cricket today confirmed the signing of West Indies opening bowler Jason Holder, Holder will be available for the SBS Bank Otago Volts in Saturday night’s HRV Twenty20 final in Hamilton.
Otago Cricket became aware of Holder’s availability for this weekend in recent days. After careful consideration and consultation with the playing group it was decided that the West Indian’s skills would be put to use in Saturday night’s final.
Otago Cricket CEO Ross Dykes said “With Nathan McCullum, Neesham and Ryder committed to the BLACKCAPS and Ian Butler still recovering from injury, we needed some added experience in the bowling stocks and Jason was keen to be involved. He has IPL experience and is obviously bowling fit as a result of the current series.
Holder’s CV includes appearances for the West Indies, Barbados and the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and recent Champions League, attended by the Volts.
In 35 Twenty20 matches, Holder has 29 wickets at an economy rate of 7.33.
SBS Bank Otago Volts coach Vaughn Johnson added “Jason bolsters our squad and gives us another option for this weekend and hopefully beyond. While we are most certainly not getting ahead of ourselves we do have to be prepared for all possible outcomes. If we are successful in defending our title then Jason will be a strong addition to our squad in terms of being another option for what might follow.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
