Essex head coach Paul Grayson has said pace bowler Tymal Mills is not ready for a call-up to the England Test side.
Former England players Michael Vaughan and Phil Tufnell have said left-armer Mills, 21, should be considered by the national team selectors.
"He's exciting, he's raw and we know he's got genuine pace," Grayson told BBC Essex.
"But he needs to play more cricket. We know that's our responsibility and something we'll work on."
Mills' first-class record
Yorkshire-born Mills, who took 11 wickets at an average of 43.36 in first-class cricket last season, regularly bowls over 90mph.

This is good advice after only 18 FC games.
I have seen him and he looks the making of a very good player indeed.
There are others like Onions, Tremlett, Shazad, etc who the selectors can call out whilst he sees this coming season through.
Exciting prospect though.
