Seamer Tim Southee showed Black Caps coach Mike Hesson enough on Sunday to suggest he's a chance to start in the third one-day international against the West Indies in Queenstown on New Year's Day.
Back from minor toe surgery, Southee bowled in the nets on Sunday morning before the second ODI at McLean Park in Napier was rained out.
Hesson said the plan had always been to re-introduce Southee for the fourth ODI in Nelson on January 4, but the 25-year-old had looked sharp in practice.
"We're taking him away with the likelihood he'll bowl in Nelson - it's possible for Queenstown, but more likely for Nelson," Hesson said.
"Tim showed enough today to suggest he's a possibility for Queenstown."
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
