Well respected former national and West Indies skipper Daren Ganga says that the hundred scored by T&T’s wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin, may inspire the rest of the team to take their game up a notch and go on to save the Test series with a victory in the final Test currently on in Hamilton.
Ramdin scored 107 and featured in a 200-run sixth wicket partnership with veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul to take the West Indies from a precarious 85 for six to 289 for six at the end of the opening day of the third Test.
Ganga who played together for many years with Ramdin said: “Denesh has the experience and has been around cricket for quite a while. Getting a Test century is not easy and getting one under pressure is even more difficult. I am very happy for him and the West Indies team because as a former player I really want to see our cricket go places.
“This series has been dismal so far in terms of the results and this partnership between Ramdin and Shiv was excellent. One hopes that it could be a match-winning partnership. The West Indies needed something like this, after what has transpired in this series so far.â€
Ganga, T&T’s most successful captain said mentally Ramdin and Chanderpaul would have eased the pain for their teammates. “What Ramdin and Shiv has done is to show that the quality is there, is just a matter of believing in yourself and getting the job done. Hopefully the others can now take pattern and get on with winning this Test match.â€
Ganga ended by saying that cricket is mainly a mental game and once the players can toughen up, they would get better results and when the results start coming in positively, they would build on this and before long, the losing trend would be a thing of the past.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
