Explosive West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has been ruled out of the five one-day cricket internationals against New Zealand, robbing the series of one of its big drawcards.

The big-hitting opener was left out of the 15-man ODI squad named today, due to a hamstring injury he suffered in India last month. He was originally expected to be sidelined for 4-5 weeks.

Opener Kirk Edwards, currently in the test side, was called in as Gayle's replacement.

Another West Indies drawcard, allrounder Kieron Pollard, was also ruled out due to a knee injury
