Cayman’s T20 cricketers, lead by Captain Ronald Ebanks, scored an emphatic victory over World Stars last Sunday to record back-to-back success in the LIME Cayman Nations Cup T20 tournament. It was a fitting conclusion to a tournament that brought extreme joy and excitement to the large following of spectators, which included Justice Charles Quin, an ardent cricket supporter.
World Stars won the toss and asked Cayman to bat first. Cayman started slowly, losing Zachary McLaughlin with the score on seven. Sticking to the plan, Darren Cato 40, Omar Willis 24 and Ronald Ebanks 41 ran hard, turning ones into twos to rack up the score. Troy Taylor added 16 runs to maintain the momentum, which took Cayman to 148 for five wickets.
In the bowling performance, Kervin Ebanks struck early and at one stage had World Stars at three wickets for three runs. There was a small revival for World Stars as Al Shields 29 and Paul Rampersaud 19 took to the attack, but Cayman calmly and expertly kept the grip on the match and won the championship by 64 runs. Leading the way for Cayman was Man of the Match Kervin Ebanks with five wickets and Ronald Ebanks with three wickets.
Earlier in the third place playoff, Jamaica ran riot over Bimshire Boys as Deno McInnis 60 with four sixes and five fours, Milton Johnson 35 and Conroy Wright 29n.o took the score to 140 for two. Bimshire Boys had no answer to the bowling of Wayne Cato and Carlton West, who each took three wickets and Devon Williams, who took two. Jamaica won by 70 runs. Man of the Match was Deno McInnis.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
