Now 25 years later Kaieteur Sports and Statistician Charwayne Walker looks back at the West Indies performances, starting with their first match vs Australia, February 28 at Mildura City Oval. No Guyanese were selected to play in this tournament, however, Rohan Kanhai, the Guyanese batting maestro, was appointed Coach of the side. Sean Devers and Barrington Browne were on the standby list.
Jamaican Robert Samuels, who is the currently the West Indies assistant coach for the Under-19 team to tour Bangladesh, was the opening batsman in this Brian Lara led side.
The Windies played in Australia (50) match: result – young Australia won by 73 runs. Toss – Australia; umpires L.J. King and P.D. Parker.  Young Australia made 238 for 5 off their 50 overs (189 minutes) B.D. Williams 112, D.J Playe 52, Skipper G.R. Parker no out 33.
