I think Shiv should open and do what he does best, bat and bat on.

Krish,
I am assuming you are a man who has been around for a long time 50+ possibly.
West Indies had many higher ranked, batting order, starting in lower positions to usher them into International cricket, recent past example Lara. Sachin was the same with Indian and in England we have done the same except we are getting it wrong at the moment
Bravo is batting at 3 but he needs ushering in as well as he will gain experience and rise in the future.
Yes opening batsmen are opening batsmen and Haynes did not make his debut and bat at 6. He was more technically adept on debut but he did not play against the full Oz squad.
Shiv loves batting and loves doing so for a long time and opening is his chance and he should be flexible for the team and that is the best service he can give. I think he is technically good enough and should lead from the front.
Powell struggles and if Gayle carried on most times, the issue of the opening partnership will never come up.
Over the years I have heard, rumoured, Shiv does not want to bat in certain positions. I do not know how true that is but you simply cannot be selfish as you have to have the team at the top of your interest.
However there is also the other, and perhaps most important driver, that batting where you feel more comfortable is where you will produce more for the team.
Shiv should just pimp himself in anyway to benefit the team and get the balance right to give the team the best chance to compete and win and perhaps he does that in many other ways apsrt from batting positions already.
I accept at 39 it is rather difficult to change accustomed positions.

we have said here many times the man who should drop to 4 is mr gayle himself.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

I think if Gayle drops then 6 is the best for him as it gives him a freedom, IMO.
But Krish, I know Shiv is not an opener but at this stage do you not think he will do it well.
I am not trying to sell it rather soliciting your opinion.
Where is girl/ boy friend FIGHTER tonight?

Listen!. Rahul Dravid was an outstanding batsman, but Rahul Dravid is not in the same league as the Rev when it comes to NUMBERS.
And the Rev says the following:
* 39 year old Shiv has scored 6026 runs at the #5 position at an average of 57.94
* Only 1 batsman in history has scored more runs at #6 than Shiv---Steve Waugh(6754)
* Shiv needs 729 runs to overtake Waugh as the highest runs scorer at #5.
stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/i...results;type=batting
BOTTOM LINE:
Rahul Dravid can go to hell----let Shiv stay at #5---and strive to overtake Waugh---and and let the WI add a specialist batsman---either Deo or Kirk Edwards at #6.

I don't know, how many matches has Shiv played at #3? He played at #4 for his county team. It's useless if you come in late and lose partners like a deck of cards. So it's far from stupid, but then again, I'm a believer in "don't fix if it ain't broke" so I guess he can continue at #5.

Check these batting position averages:
43.79---Bravo at #3
44.24---Samuels at #4
57.94---Shiv at #5
QUESTION:
Why should Shiv leave #5 and replace either Bravo and Samuels ?
BOTTOM LINE:
RAHUL DRAVID can bat but he DOES NOT KNOW HIS NUMBERS.
