Something strange and almost eerie happened on September 3 this year. The twitterati focused on non-Test cricket. For several hours the Irishmen leading England's charge over their countrymen was a trending topic. That the top run-scorer, Eoin Morgan, and the strike bowler, Boyd Rankin, had both previously played for Ireland was trivia gold, the currency of choice in social media reporting.

I totally disagree with England taking Irish players as we do have players to fill those roles. The 'good' thing is they can resume playing for Ireland after being discarded.
I heard Phil Simmons after an England Ireland ODI commenting on the 3 day domestic competition which is an excellent platform but until there is some sort of substantial central contract the likes of Morgan, Rankin etc will do what they are doing.
I do not have a sense of the popularity and support for Cricket in the Republic.
Would I like to see the Irish and South African players staying loyal to their countries.....YES.

Simmo needs to move on now to test himself.
After Butch gave up Zim I thought he might have been up for that.
I really supported Gibson's appointment but soon after, I thought OMG!
Such havoc and upheavals and it is worse if he was instructed.
No character.
I have given up alcohol but will be tempted to crack open a Bollinger for his and Sammy's departure.

Can Ireland convince their up-and-coming stars that home is where the heart is?
