One of the batting mainstays of the West Indies middle order, Ramnaresh Sarwan once hit six fours in an over off Indian pacer Munaf Patel. Sarwan achieved that feat on June 23, 2006 (his 26th birthday) at Warner Park Sporting Complex and emulated Sandeep Patil (off Bob Willis, seven balls) and Chris Gayle (off Matthew Hoggard, six balls). Sarwan made an impressive Test debut against Pakistan in 2000 but it took him 28 Tests and 49 innings to hit his maiden Test century - against Bangladesh in 2002. Sarwan played a major role with the bat in the West Indies winning the NatWest Series and the Champions Trophy, both in England in 2004. Sarwan succeeded Brian Lara as West Indies captain after the 2007 World Cup but on the England tour in the same year suffered a shoulder injury that ruled him out of competitive cricket for nearly ten months. Sarwan returned to the West Indies side as vice-captain to Chris Gayle in 2008 and in the 2009 home series against England, he equalled the record of Sunil Gavaskar and Ricky Ponting for most centuries in the fourth innings.
