as usual you are off base. black people long dominated those areas of Trinidad life because they were those who were interested in those lines of work and opportunity...and as a factor of population. AFROs were the majority for a long time in Titty..a vast majority.
you do not factor that in Mail, and what it meant in the society on a routine basis. slim Indian majority is recent phenomena and likely the result of deliberate Indian population policy..deliberate policy of AFROs too for we decided to listen to white propaganda about population and limit ourselves
BUT MAIL...I KEEP INSISTING THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW WEST INDIAN LIFE AT ALL. YOUR COMMENTARY EXPOSES A SERIOUS LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF THE NATURE, TONE AND POWER IN, OF AND ABOUT WEST INDIAN LIFE.
PUT THIS IN YOUR REASONING FROM NOW ON I SUGGEST TO YOU: UP TO 1962...EVERY DECISION, IN AND ABOUT LIFE IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO... WAS EITHER MADE AND THEN FINALIZED, OR MADE AND FINALIZED BY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL....NOT BY BLACK PEOPLE.
After 1962 many long established trends continued and solidified but now can be said to have changed. while the services you list were dominated by afros, Indos are now numerous in them. but as I said the make-up of population numbers was different back in the day. now there are more Indos than Afros looking for work

So it is not a tete-a-tete. No need to get your knickers in a twist Old Girl.
If we do not look at the historical context then we might as well forget the plight of others when they quote history.
I am pleased at least one of us is not posting crap.

To a large extent I tend to agree with that rather being cognisant of it.
The English bashing is phenomenal as those here harp on about history.
People who cry racism here are those who feel continually bashing other groups, especially whites, is par for the course.
I suppose your Scottish roots might fit you right in...lol
However my agreement with your point is absolute as we need to look at what is happening now and the progress made. I continually hear in this forum about the English treatment but none has moved onto the significant progress made through Race Equality legislation. Granted legislation is no guarantee but what id does is change people's behaviour and as it permeates generations it becomes the norm.
Even in the West indies I had no non white faces and when I came 'home' the same. These days, and for a long time classrooms up and down the country are representative of its population. There is a feeling that anyone with a White face is automatically racist and that is simply not true.
However history has a large influence on perspective today. Do you not think?

what i dont get. why is there a fear of east indians in some dominant organization? Tell me when east indians held black noses to the grindstone people?
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

In every thing we do history plays a part as long as we do not live in the past.
It seems ok to think all whites are racist, all Blacks have a right to be protected against racism but anyone else seems to be over sensitive.
I gave a context for Trinbago which helps to explain the ingrained feelings and split along ethnic lines and that did not happen in 1962 but from then onwards. It neither justifies nor condones any sort of ill behaviour but we need to ensure we are consistent.
I think there is fear and that is why a threat is felt.
