Jesse Ryder will make his Otago Volts debut against his old team Wellington in a four-day Plunket Shield game starting on Sunday in Wellington.
Volts coach Vaughn Johnson said this week he was mulling over the possibility to leaving the star batsman behind to prepare for the first twenty20 fixture next week against Canterbury in Christchurch.
He also pondered whether it may be a week too early for Ryder, who only officially joined the Otago team on Monday.
However, even a sluggish Ryder is still better than most in the country and he is a player that can swap from the four-day format to the twenty20 contest with relative ease.
Probably the most left-field selection for the first up Plunket Shield game is that of medium-pacer Bradley Scott who is now back living in Dunedin after spending time playing for Northern Districts.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
