Michigan police are investigating what drove a 74-year-old woman to allegedly shoot her 17-year-old grandson to death at the home they shared on Friday night.

Police in West Bloomfield didn't release their names.

Cops arrived at the gated condo complex northwest of Detroit at around 5:30 p.m. after neighbors reported hearing gunshots, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The teen -- who had also managed to call 911 -- had several gunshot wounds and was rushed to Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, where he was pronounced dead at around 6 p.m, police said.

The grandmother spent the night at another hospital
