People trying to turn this into Erin being ungrateful are purposely missing the point. I covered college football + basketball for 6 years, missed Christmas and Thanksgiving religiously between bowl games, holiday tournaments, etc. When I was briefly a sideline reporter, same thing. As well as when I was first getting TV reps at ESPN. I volunteered to work every holiday. Hell, me and my momma spent Thanksgiving in Bristol because I was filling in on First Take.
Erin was speaking to realities of the business and I didn’t take it as her asking anyone to feel bad for her. A lot of younger reporters say they want to do what she does, but are you willing to do what she did? No, she isn’t digging ditches, but the negativity these comments created was unwarranted.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
