You guys have probably heard of this, but I've only just seen it.
"Small Axe" is an excellent, critically praised series of films about Guyanese, Trinidadians and Jamaicans living in 1960s-80s Britain. I'd recommend watching "Mangrove" (with the Guyanese actress Letitia Wright), "Red White and Blue" and "Education" in particular. The director/writer is famed British/Grenadian/Trinidadian director Steve McQueen.
There's a sensitivity and humanism to these films that's rare. I'd have liked more installments - there are so many more West Indian stories to tell and angles to explore - but the focus on West Indians in Britain and inner London nevertheless lends it some focus.
Anyone seen it?
