with all due respects to mario lemieux and wayne gretsky , the best fowards in my opinion has to be Valeri Kharlomov and Alexander Yakushev . in defence I saw Bobby Orr in his prime but Valeri Vasilev was better

I personally have never seen a better player than Gretzky. He didn't have the hardest slap shot or wrist shot, nor was he the fastest skater and he certainly didn't have size on his side. But what he had was the brain of a master chess player and the creative ability of a Picasso on ice. I've never seen any other player create and weave plays out of thin air the way he did. He was always 2 steps ahead of everyone else on the ice. A genius.

I only saw them in that 72 Summit series. But from what I did see I can say that Gretzky was better than both - although Kharmalov clearly was great player.
