I use my basement the least even though its fully self-contained with kitchen and shower . I make sure that I use the rest of the house to the fullest. Man I bought a nice leather suite just a couple months ago for the living room and the cats already scratch the thing up so bad it look like it pass thru two world wars. Like I man should cover it up with plastic now  ::

IKEA is the best SPACE saving style !

NOT that bulky bedroom stuff with Box Spring  ::

a few years ago we had our basement professionally finished....huge bathroom with shower...no kitchen though.
by that time both of my kids were out of the house.....basement hardly got any use
last july my son and DIL moved in until their house is built and they use the basement as a living/sittingroom.....i finally felt like we were getting some value for what we spent
they will probably leave in a couple of months

like you.....we use all of the rooms in the house - no special rooms for guests only.
and now with the two grandsons, nana let them do whatever they want in the house (what are you saving it for he says to me if i make any objections :smiley: )...they are the equivalent of your cats ::
