ON THE 5TH MAY 1838 the Hesperus and Withby sail from from India and landed in guyana on board was a group of people in search of a better life what they found,a group of people just have been freed from slavery and they were to replace their labor activities, what these people brought with them,⁸ one bundle on their head with clothes the other one in their brain fill with a rich culture, of Truth, Love and honesty, with this rich culture they live and work with the African as one people against the British slavery conditions unity was their main weapon they never fight against each other they fight together, that is how they defeat the British, today their culture and their unity have been replaced with Lust hatred and ego, on this special occasion i pay tribute to my ancestors for the life they have live with others, may we their offspring make every effort to forge that relationship with our African brothers and sisters for the greater good of guyana, May God bless their souls and give them a special place close to him.

Each year on May 5, Guyana commemorates the arrival of Indian indentured workers to the Caribbean. On this day the S.S. Hesperus and the S.S Whitby arrived along the shores of Berbice and Demerara. I think that the first of my ancestors came to the Western Hemisphere on the Whitby. He and the many others who arrived subsequently remained and built their lives in Alness, Cumberland, Rose Hall, No. 35, etc. Indian arrival in Guyana and the Caribbean marked the beginnings of my family’s origin story. I remember it today because I want my kids to remember their history and their ancestors resilience. I am their resilience.
