The Editor-in-Chief of the state-owned Guyana Chronicle, Mark Ramotar was early Wednesday morning robbed at gunpoint by four men who braced him off the road with a car they were in.
Police said his licensed firearm, jewellery and laptop computer and escaped. The incident occurred around 3 AM on the Agricola Public Road.
Sources said that the car in which the robbers were travelling braced Ramotar’s vehicle, causing it to slam into the median. When the Editor-in-Chief’s car came to a halt, three men placed guns to his head and chest before relieving him of the items and fleeing.
Ramotar also fled the scene and returned later Wednesday morning to retrieve his car.
Police said the incident occurred around 3 AM as Ramotar of Best Village, West Coast Demerara was going home. A newspaper photographer was also in Ramotar’s car at the time but he was not robbed.
Police spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker said investigators were treating the occurrence as a
vehicular accident.
“A number of persons in the vicinity went to his assistance during which three men armed with firearms held him up and took away his licensed pistol, jewellery and laptop computer and escaped,†said Whittaker.
