PPP can't continue same old politics

Those who been championing the cause of free and fair elections must now ensure that they hold the PPP's feet to the fire so that there will not be governance as usual. Do not fire career diplomats and others simply because of their race or even political affiliation. Credentials, professionalism and track record must be the determinants. Do not employ people in significant positions on the basis of party affiliation but meritocracy. Work to stop the corruption, bribery and wastage. Create policies and programs that benefit the entire nation and implement them accordingly. Create a fair playing field for all so the rich and powerful are not allowed to ride roughshod, break the law with impunity and get access through channels that are closed to others. Professionalize the police force and create traction to tackle mental health issues such as abuse and suicide. Hold the health care and legal segments of society accountable. Ensure employers follow the law and create fair and just working conditions for their employees. Pay special attention to poverty reduction. Hold all bureaucrats, including ministers of the government responsible for their utterances, job performance and overall behavior. Do not clamp down on critics; instead protect their right to free speech as long a nothing illegal is done.

We really need to take the cream of the crop subject matter experts of Guyana as well as those in the Diaspora willing to donate their time for their country and form sound steering committees that will evaluate and bring prospective to the various ministries. These ministries cannot continue to function without input as they continue to make the same mistakes over and over, and you are left with the same garbage. They don't know what they don't know so having experiences and fresh ideas to bring different POVs and a vetting process will be to their best interest. This is how most of the world function and progress is made. This is not to create gridlock or a counter productive environment so the strategy will need to evaluated on an ongoing basis.
