Capitalism is the manifestation of Thanatos, the death instinct in human affairs. It mimics cancer in its insatiability and drive to infinite expansion, now manifest in the ecological Holocaust, correctly now described as, not the sixth mass extinction, but the first mass extermination event in planetary history, the capitalists, formerly merely genocidists, now becoming omnicidists, an inevitable development. Under capitalism nothing is worth anything but its monetary value, and humans must exist in a perpetual state of war with one another, the enemy. The greedy individual is king. That misanthropy and xenophobia is the true essence of capitalism. ‘Every man for himself and the Devil Market take the hindmost 99%’.
Socialism, in absolute contrast, values all people and all Life and sees others as comrades, colleagues or fellow humans. Rather than ruthless competition, co-operation and mutual support rules, and Life on Earth and future generations are valued for themselves, not just as commodities or assets. It is the Eros, the Life Instinct, in contrast to Thanatos, in action.
