A former Indian federal minister from the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

has been arrested in connection with allegations of sexual abuse.

If found guilty, Swami Chinmayanand, a 73 year old former lawmaker from the northern state

of Uttar Pradesh faces up to 10 years in jail.

He had served as a minister in the BJP government under former prime minister

Atal Behari Vajpayee.

The case has also drawn national attention because it's the second such

allegation against a prominent BJP politician : Kuldeep Sengar, a lawmaker in the state

was arrested in April for allegedly raping a woman

who was a minor at the time of the attack .....

of rape is fighting for her life after being critically injured in a crash that killed two of her relatives
