The Guyana Elections Commission says it cannot sacrifice accuracy and thoroughness for expediency. This is as the nation awaits the results from yesterday’s general and regional polls.According to Dr. Steve Surujbally at a press conference this morning, the commission is only accepting the physical statements of polls from the various regions, in order for commissioners to verify the results.

He noted that there was a problem getting the statements of poll from some areas in region three, however, by midday Surujbally said they should be in. According to Dr. Surujbally, by mid afternoon the commission should be in a position to provide better information on the results and will announce the winning party by late this evening or tomorrow.

With only 500,000 votes to count I wonder why the process is so inefficient.

They have computers to link in all of the tabulated votes....it can't be that difficult....unless the government knows the result and are putting measures in place to deal with any eventualities.

still getting unconfirmed reports that the PPP has won ....  what a confusion this election is ..
