Donte DiVincenzo’s moment in the sun didn’t last long before the clouds started to roll in.
The Villanova hero, named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, deleted his Twitter account Tuesday morning after a number of the social media site’s users pointed out racially insensitive and homophobic remarks posted on DiVincenzo’s account.
Others pointed out many of the tweets were just quotes of rap lyrics, but the damage was done.
In the immediate aftermath, the school released a statement claiming the sophomore guard’s account had been hacked — the default response now when any unflattering social media material surfaces.
Unfortunately for Villanova, the offending posts, which featured prominent uses of the N-word and derogatory terms for gay people, came from DiVincenzo’s high school days and earlier, making it unlikely the account was hacked.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
