America's largest supermarket chain Kroger will stop selling firearms to under 21s at 43 of its Fred Meyer locations across the country, a spokeswoman Jessica Adelman announced Wednesday. The locations—in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington—will not permit the sale of guns or ammunition to anyone under the age of 21 “in response to the Parkland, Fla., high school tragedy.” The chain stopped selling assault-style rifles several years ago in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, but has decided to also stop selling these rifles in-store or by special order in their Alaska locations as well. “Recent events demonstrate the need for additional action on the part of responsible gun retailers,” said Adelman. This comes after Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Good announced that they would no longer be selling firearms to those under the age of 21 this week—a stance the president has said he supports but the National Rifle Association is against.
