Most of the food you consume will be digested and raises blood glucose in one to two hours. To capture the peak level of your blood glucose, it is best to test one to two hours after you start eating.
The American Diabetes Association recommends a target of below 180 mg/dl two hours after a meal. The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists recommends a lower target: below 140 mg/dl two hours after a meal.
Ask your doctor which target is right for you. Postmeal blood glucose monitoring (and record-keeping) is important because it helps you see how your body responds to carbohydrates in general and particular foods. Managing postmeal blood glucose can help reduce your risk of developing heart and circulation problems.

I don't take the ADA seriously. if deh tell you walk dont run..run and dont walk.
use a regular meter with the whole numbers. you shud know that the proper range is between 5 to 8 or 9.
as you eat and measure you will be able in time to associate the foods you eat and its sugar effect on your body..so you can tell your levels by what you eat and the way you feel..without the meter
my problem is different.... low blood sugar is my problem..and my sugar can drop quickly with no symptoms at all. so even when I eat I must monitor all the time. and I always have to have emergency sweet nearby..arms reach.
