Safe Injection Sites

there is a lot of talk going around regarding opening up a safe injection site here in toronto for drug addicts.

for that dont know - its a safe and clean facility where users can safetly inject, with clean needles, their drugs. I am not sure who brings the drugs etc...but there are registered nursing staff available on site as well.

The police commissioner is against this - what are your opinions?

What are the stats on say Hepatitis as a result.

surely they can show what infections .....and the # of patients.

Although I can see why they want such a safe injection site, I feel like not a lot of people would go there. For one, drug addicts are quite terrified of admitting that they have an addiction. I doubt that they would want to be seen in such places. Aside from that, what if the cravings start in the middle of the night? Then they would have to go to the place to get injected.

Nothing beats avoiding drugs but if they cannot, they must at least be educated about how to properly inject themselves and maybe what things to avoid doing. Not a lot of people know that using the same needle can transmit diseases, sadly.
