Blatter re-elected for a 5th term as FIFA President

Embattled FIFA President, Joseph "Sepp" Blatter was re-elected for a 5th term as FIFA's head at the world governing body's 65th Congress in Blatter's homeland of Zurich, Switzerland on Friday.

Blatter defeated his challenger Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan 133-73 after only one round of voting.

Under FIFA regulations, the first round of voting requires a two-thirds majority to negate another round of voting, but Blatter missed the cut which is 140 of the 209 voting members, garnering 133 votes. Blatter clearly lost support due to this week's dramatic indictment and arrests of 9 FIFA officials including CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb and former President Austin "Jack" Warner on corruption, bribery and kickback charges. Five other individuals from the sports marketing industry were also indicted.

The second round of voting would have required only a simple majority of 105 votes for victory. Prince Ali withdrew from the race after the first round results.
