New St Kitts Cabinet sworn into Office

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) – Newly elected Prime Minister, Dr Timothy Harris, has pledged to “join forces across the political divide” in an effort to restore unity in St Kitts-Nevis.

Harris, addressing the swearing ceremony of his new Cabinet on Sunday at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium, said the victory of the coalition Team Unity in the February 16 general election will be a model for the rest of the Caribbean.

Team Unity won seven of the 11 seats contested in the general election. The 15-member parliament will also include three senators, two appointed by the government and the attorney general, who is the ex-officio member.

“I promise you that my cabinet will lead this country, with your help and prayers to a better place for all the people of St Kitts Nevis and not just some of the people. We the people determined that enough was enough, it was a time to end victimization and political discrimination.”

The Prime Minister also promised the young people that “a new dawn has come because Team Unity will ensure prosperity”.

The Cabinet was sworn into office by Governor General Sir Edmund Lawrence and includes Sean Kenneth Richards, the Deputy Prime Minister who is also the Minister of Education, Youth, Sport and Culture.

Eugene Hamilton – Minister of Agriculture, Social Services, Cooperatives and lands;  Wendy Phillips- Minister of state in the Ministry of Health and Gender Affairs; Vincent Fitzgerald Byron – Attorney General, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs; Mark Brantley – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Aviation.

Harris will also have responsibility for the Ministries of Finance and Sustainable Development, People Empowerment, National Security and Constituency Empowerment.
