Angoy’s Avenue group honours Grade 6 tops, Amerindian families

In what it is hoped will be an annual event, the Safe Neighbourhood Council (SNC) of Angoy’s Avenue for the second consecutive year collaborated with the police ranks of ‘B’ Division to honour the top three National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) performers in the community.

The pupils, Alex Mohabir, Shellon Scipio and Shaniel Sulker were recognised at a simple ceremony held on Thursday at the President’s Youth Choice Building, Vryman’s Erven New Amsterdam.

In addition, food hampers were distributed to eight Amerindian families

It's nice to see the police using progressive methods in its outreach to disadvantage communities. Others will learn from these baby steps that the police are there to serve and protect and not what the headlines depict with great regularity. Crime. Crime and more crime. Poverty is not a precursor for criminality.
