Long Island School Bans Backpacks

Students at Wantagh High School on New York’s Long Island must now carry their books in clear plastic bags and may no longer access their lockers after the school banned backpacks. The school said it’s received numerous bomb threats recently. In addition to the backpack ban and locker lockout, new security cameras were placed throughout the school, and all but one of the bathrooms have been closed until new ones that can be monitored will be opened. “I think it’s a little extreme,” one father said, “but I don’t mind it because if something were to happen, I’d hold them liable. I’d be down there screaming.”
