ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, July 19, 2013 – LIAT on Friday announced that the regional airline has cancelled flights to and from Barbados “until further notice.â€
Company spokesman, Desmond Brown told Demerara Waves Online News (
www.demwaves.com
) that LI 773 – Barbados/Guyana and LI 774 – Guyana/Barbados have been grounded because of “operational issues.â€
Other usually reliable sources said the airline was suffering from a shortage of planes and crew. Asked why would there be an aircraft shortage if the carrier has purchased new planes, the official said that not all of the six ATRs have arrived.
Passengers booked to travel on these services are asked call their local LIAT office or the LIAT Call Centre from Antigua – 1-268-480-5582; toll free from the rest of the Caribbean – 1-888-844-5428 and from Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands – 1-866-549-5428 for information on the status of their flights.
"LIAT regrets any inconvenience caused as a result of these cancellations," said the carrier.
Demerara Waves Online News (

) was told LIAT would very soon begin flights to and from Ogle. Those, sources said, would include flights to and from Barbados.
