Grateful to USA for saving Guyana’s democracy
One Tom Linden, perhaps a fake name, attacked me in his party-aligned internet paper (April 7) for defending the internationally recognized democratic outcome of the Guyana, March 2020 elections. Guyanese and I am grateful to the United States for helping to save our democracy. Linden slammed the US and global forces for protecting voters ballots a
President Ali loses nothing by reaching across political divide
It is okay to give someone or a group of people compliments at times. But continuously pandering to people is unhealthy as it boosts their ego and diminishes your self-esteem.  Such a relationship whereby you need to pander to people is not a healthy relationship as it leaves you feeling drained and exhausted while portraying to those being pa

The Opposition scoffed when, during the campaign, the PPP declared it would be delivering 50,000 house lots during the next five years, were it to get into office. In its previous iterations, the housing sector was one of its glowing successes, and it was not coincidental that much of that success occurred under the watch of Irfaan Ali who was then

I am a relatively young man, as is the majority of the Guyanese population.  Sport runs in my blood, some more so than others.  Cricket is a part of my culture, a part of my heritage and a part of my being.  As much as I am critical of West Indies cricket, I find great joy and happiness in those briefest of moments of success.
When Jagdeo ran as President in 2001, his party got 34 seats
I feel compelled to respond to an article written in another section of the media. In his extravagance, the writer stated “the 2011 elections were a referendum on the Bharrat Jagdeo 12-year rule.” Really, a referendum? Since when does an election become equated with a referendum? Perhaps he has included this in the course Politics 101! More astonis
The Government has once again come to the aid of the Mayor and City Council of Georgetown.
The Government has once again come to the aid of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) with President Dr Irfaan Ali announcing the advance payment of $100 million in taxes to the cash-strapped Council. This is not the first time that Government has had to help the M&CC. Last year while drowning in a financial crisis, the M&CC went running t

Guyanese must often be inclined to think that their politicians are very tiresome
Guyanese must often be inclined to think that their politicians are very tiresome. They are supposed to represent the electorate, but their views on how to do that can often take a quite distorted form. From the President downwards all are paid by the taxpayer, but when they will not even talk to each other how can they possibly argue they are disc

We are disappointed at the Hon. Leader of the Opposition, Joseph Harmon
We are disappointed at the Hon. Leader of the Opposition, Joseph Harmon.  The opposition group should be, too, but that is a matter for them and their internal deliberations.  The bigger problem and concern for all Guyanese is that there is neither harp nor formidable opposition in this country at this time.  With that as the s
one year after the March 02, 2020 elections
Guyana one year laterMarch 02, 2021It is said that those who forget the past are condemned to repeating it. That is exactly what happened in Guyana prior toevents that led to the March 02, 2020 elections.Guyanese in a very short period of time, after a mere three decades had forgotten the struggles of the ‘70s and ‘80s. They had not only forgotten

Guyana Diaspora Forum

We have a large database of Guyanese worldwide.  Most of our readers are in the USA, Canada, and the UK.  Our Blog and Newsletter  would not only carry  articles and videos on Guyana, but also other articles on a wide range of subjects that may be of interest to our readers in over 200 countries, many of them non-Guyanese  We hope that you like our selections.

It is estimated that over one million Guyanese, when counting their dependents, live outside of Guyana.  This exceeds the population of Guyana, which is now about 750,000.  Many left early in the 50’s and 60’s while others went with the next wave in the 70’s and 80’s.  The latest wave left over the last 20 years. This outflow of Guyanese, therefore, covers some three generations. This outflow still continues today, where over 80 % of U.G. graduates now leave after graduating.  We hope this changes, and soon.

Guyanese, like most others, try to keep their culture and pass it on to their children and grandchildren.  The problem has been that many Guyanese have not looked back, or if they did it was only fleetingly.  This means that the younger generations and those who left at an early age know very little about Guyana since many have not visited the country.  Also, if they do get information about Guyana, it is usually negative and thus the cycle of non-interest is cultivated.

This Guyana Diaspora Online Forum , along with its monthly newsletter, aims at bringing Guyanese together to support positive news, increase travel and tourism in Guyana and, in general, foster the birth of a new Guyana, which has already begun notwithstanding the negative news that grabs the headlines.  As the editor and manager of the publication, I am committed to delivering Blog entries and Newsletters that are politically balanced, and focused on the positive ideas we wish to share and foster among Guyanese.
