The History of Guyana
A melting pot of cultures and a captivating maze of natural splendours, Guyana has been shaped by hundreds of years of tumultuous history. Considered one of South America’s most hidden of gems, the Co-operative Republic of Guyana boasts a long-held and hard-fought history, having been used as a pawn of war and conquest ever since European arrival s

Guyanese must vehemently oppose statements encouraging racial hatred
The following is an opinion piece by Neil Kumar I wish to first record my strongest condemnation of the horrendous murders of Joel and Isiah Henry, as well as Haresh Singh. These dreadful and unacceptable occurrences recently sparked huge disappointment and immense anger on the East Berbice corridor. Please permit me to also join with the th
PNC post-election legacy lives on
OVER the past week, Guyana went to hell and back, having survived the travesty of a distorted absurdity that Guyanese were hoping would not emerge with its ugly face so quickly (at least not until another five years perhaps, if at all). But the dream was short-lived and as they say, “the rest is history.” Having imbibed on the regular week-end inhi
Pompeo’s visit not tied to Payara permit
Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat says that US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo’s visit this week is in no way tied to permits being processed for ExxonMobil’s Payara well and that the US oil major must meet the necessary requirements and environmental standards before any approval is granted. And while a second draft of terms of agree
We have to totally reject all hate crimes, regardless of ethnicity or class
Over the past few days, many of us have cried a number of times over the barbaric, sadistic and uncivilized actions that some Guyanese are doing to each other. Thankfully, we have to commend and support President Irfaan Ali in how he is dealing with the inhuman and violent actions. The President has equally condemned the murder and torture of Afric
Granger and Harmon have become besotted with hanging on to power
Two young Guyanese boys, Joel and Isaiah Henry, 19 and 16 years old, were murdered, brutally attacked by persons yet unknown, their bodies mutilated, with the obvious intention of conveying a political message. Their bodies were dumped on the land of a rice farmer with the intent of putting the blame where it did not belong. Immediately, the Leader

GuySuCo requires prudent leadership
SUGAR remains a vital contributor to rural Guyana where over 230,000 of our people live in Berbice and Demerara. So while sugar is on its knees today, it cannot get any worse. The workers union (GAWU) predicted that GuySuCo is heading to its worst production in the history of the industry in 2020 with an annual production of 77,878 tonnes. But ther
APNU+AFC own members who are ‘giving ‘em hell’
THE energetic PPP/C has been in office for five weeks, and has amassed a number of achievements in an accomplished manner. Since the opening of the 12th sitting for Parliament last Tuesday, they did not hesitate but went straight to work, undaunted by the irresponsible walk-out by the APNU+AFC elected National Assembly members. GuySuCo is more than just sugar
THE Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) is not only about sugar and employment but a medium that has contributed significantly to national and community development, positively impacting the lives of thousands of Guyanese. This is according to Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, during a recent interview with the Guyana Chronicle. “GuySuCo hist

Guyana Diaspora Forum

We have a large database of Guyanese worldwide.  Most of our readers are in the USA, Canada, and the UK.  Our Blog and Newsletter  would not only carry  articles and videos on Guyana, but also other articles on a wide range of subjects that may be of interest to our readers in over 200 countries, many of them non-Guyanese  We hope that you like our selections.

It is estimated that over one million Guyanese, when counting their dependents, live outside of Guyana.  This exceeds the population of Guyana, which is now about 750,000.  Many left early in the 50’s and 60’s while others went with the next wave in the 70’s and 80’s.  The latest wave left over the last 20 years. This outflow of Guyanese, therefore, covers some three generations. This outflow still continues today, where over 80 % of U.G. graduates now leave after graduating.  We hope this changes, and soon.

Guyanese, like most others, try to keep their culture and pass it on to their children and grandchildren.  The problem has been that many Guyanese have not looked back, or if they did it was only fleetingly.  This means that the younger generations and those who left at an early age know very little about Guyana since many have not visited the country.  Also, if they do get information about Guyana, it is usually negative and thus the cycle of non-interest is cultivated.

This Guyana Diaspora Online Forum , along with its monthly newsletter, aims at bringing Guyanese together to support positive news, increase travel and tourism in Guyana and, in general, foster the birth of a new Guyana, which has already begun notwithstanding the negative news that grabs the headlines.  As the editor and manager of the publication, I am committed to delivering Blog entries and Newsletters that are politically balanced, and focused on the positive ideas we wish to share and foster among Guyanese.
