Aamer Sohail accuses Pakistan of 'fixing' their way to Champions Trophy final

TIMESOFINDIA.COM | Updated: Jun 16, 2017, 03.42 PM IST

NEW DELHI: Fixing claims seem to have returned to mar Pakistan cricket. Former captain Aamer Sohail has vaguely accused the team of making it to the final of the ICC Champions Trophy on the basis of "external forces". During an interview to a Pakistan news channel, the former opener has said that the team should not be flying too high, because if they're in the final, it's because "they were supposed to".
"We will congratulate you when you play well but we'll also criticise you when you don't. They [Pakistan team] should not be flying too high on their success at the moment because we know that they've been 'brought' to this position", Sohail said

After a dismal show against India in the Group B match, Pakistan scripted a terrific turnaround and went on to beat Sri Lanka, South Africa, and then England in the first semi-final on Monday. India then beat Bangladesh to set up a mouth-watering final against their arch-rivals.

Sohail however, did not say anything beyond that, something that has left everyone puzzled. What was interesting to notice was that sharing the screen space with Sohail was Pakistan great Javed Miandad , who did not counter the claims of his former team-mate. Atul Wassan, former India cricketer and a common figure as an analysit, ridiculed Sohail's claims saying that "Such incomplete statements" mean nothing. However, considering Pakistan's history in fixing, the claims cannot be entirely ruled out. Three of their players - Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt - were guilty of match-fixing during the 2010 tour of England and were penalised accordingly.
It has also been widely claimed over the years that crime lord and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim had a role in determining the outcomes of Pakistan's matches in the late 80s and early 90s.

That 2010 scandal is going to haunt these guys for the rest of their lives, but I think this is just a case of someone trying to create something where there is nothing. What do you think?

How worse can this get for Pakistan with their own former Captain accusing them? The Pakistan cricket team has had a history of producing players who are into match and spot fixing. Every year they get caught red handed on tape. I think this is the time for them to get caught in 2017. ;D :D But nevertheless it is always fun to watch IND V/s PAK.

Perhaps the most perplexing aspect of AT&T Stadium, otherwise known as “Jerry World,” is the glare from the sun that bursts through the windows and shines directly onto the field. Time and time again the glare has impacted players’ visibility during games, yet Jerry Jones refuses to make any changes to account for the sun.

Rather than install curtains, Jones has previously said he feels it’s a home-field advantage to have that type of stadium factor impacting games. Well, the glare ended up benefitting the Chiefs early into Thursday’s Thanksgiving game, as a pass from Dak Prescott to George Pickens fell incomplete, at least in part due to the impact of the sun’s glare.

SerenaThis batting performance by the West Indies in the second innings blew me away. I kept closing my eyes and then rubbing and opening them again and sat transfixed as I watch that unbelievable partnership between John Campbell and Shai Hope. What a magnificent performance by these two! It just goes to show that patience, determination and effort can go a long way to improve the performances of the West Indies team. Let us hope that this effort by West Indies batsmen would not be a one-off performance, but will be the beginning of a renewed effort to improve the performances of the team, going forward.(13.10.2025, 09:28)(09:28)0

WarrenJameis Winston is asked about being named QB3 on the Giants' roster behind Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart:

"As a competitor, you want to be the starter. But I prepare to be the starter, I know I'm a starter in this league.

But you have to be able to be grateful for your role...my role right now is to assist Russ and Jaxson to be the best that they can be while preparing to be the best that I can be.

No matter if I'm 3, 33, this is my first year being number 19, so it's always a first for everything.

I focus on what I would love. And what I would love is for this team to have success."
