1st Test: India v England at Rajkot

Figured I'd get the bandwagon rolling early. Should be a great series.

India have won their last four home series in emphatic fashion - winning 11 out of the 12 matches played against Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and West Indies. South Africa were the only side to avoid a whitewash - largely on a technicality with the final four days at Bangalore washed out due to rain.

India's last home series lost came against England in 2012.

From a betting perspective, India are 4/7 odds on favourites to win the series with England at 9/2, and a series draw at 4/1.

If England are to pull off the upset, they will need huge contributions from Cook and Root with the bat, and hope that Moeen Ali and Rashid can replicate Swann and Panesar's success with the ball some four years ago.

I don't think #1 India is a great side.  they can be beaten and england may be able to do it.  they always play India tuff.

a slim 9/2 is in england's favor.  it demonstrates that a lot of people think like me on the Indian#1 reality.

Root reverses

After the opening day's play, odds on England winning the series at Bet365 have shortened to 5/1, though surprisingly lengthened to 11/1 at BetVictor.

A very good day for England. They rode their luck early with three dropped catches in the first six overs, and then fought back hard after lunch thanks to Root and Mo. The dismissal of Root was an interesting one. The initial reactions of both players was telling. Root trudged off believing that the ball had been caught, Umesh was chasing after the rebound in an attempt to catch it, believing he did not have control.

Given the importance of Cook's wicket, I was surprised he chose not to review his decision. That decision was compounded by DRS showing the ball would have gone on to clearly miss the stumps.

While I like the attacking nature of Ben Duckett, he will need to tighten up his defensive technique. It has been a while since I have seen a Test batsman continue to show all three stumps to a spinner and succeed.
