Andre Fletcher is...

Historically one of the worst batsmen in ODI history. Now averaging 14.16 in 25 innings. Mohammad Al-Sahariar (13.35) and Tushar Imran (13.68) are the only two batsman (1-5) with a lower ODI average*.

*minimum 25 innings.

Fletcher came to attention after a single innings in the Sanford circus and as much as he tried to be dropped and put out to pastures, on the weight of his consistent poor results, he has been continually been selected.

This trend continued after a good WT20 Cup!

However apart from him, although Ramdin did ok ish at 5 in this series, Ramdin batting at 5 shows up the team balance and selection issues.

Far too many bits and pieces players and even Holder only seem to do something with the bat when the pressure is off, he is an allrounder after all.

There are better spinners than Benn, particularly Bishoo.

Agreed on Ramdin. For me, he shouldn't be batting any higher than 6, and preferably at 7.

Of the 23 players that have batted at no 5 in a minimum of 15 innings over the last 5 years, Ramdin's average (29.12) is 19th. Only Stokes (21.46), du Plessis (24.46), Chigumbura (25.93) and Wilson (29.00) have a lower average.

The average score for a no 5 batsman (min. 15 matches) in ODIs over this period is 38.30. No 6 batsmen have averaged 32.72, while no 7 average 27.22.

Over the last 5 years, 20 wicketkeepers have appeared in a minimum of 15 ODis. Ramdin's overall average (31.33) is 12th best. Wicketkeepers as a group have averaged 34.31 over this period. So Ramdin's average is pretty much right in line with the average wicketkeeper. Given that he is a very good gloveman, he does still warrant inclusion in the side, just batting lower down the order.

I also agree on the bits and pieces players. I don't think Pollard is a great fit in this side. He doesn't bowl enough to justify carrying an average of 26 with the bat and batting as high as 6.

I would have Kraigg Brathwaite opening the batting with Johnson Charles. Other players I would look to bring into the squad include Roston Chase, Vishaul Singh, Sunil Ambris, Alzarri Jospeh, Nkrumah Bonner and Bishoo (in place of Benn).

the side is a silly one as it is selected and ordered in the batting.

Gabe shud be a selective pik...he shud not be pik against the Oz who will always feast on his pace.  the Saffies are a different and lesser matter

Benn also shud be out to pasture.  his time is run out.


but this is the logic of the wicb...and dat is what I expected and continue to expct from them all the way..until the wicb is killed, put out of its misery and a new and positive start is made in the administration of west indies cricket.

Alzarri Joseph would be a shoo in to replace Jerome and in tandem with Gabriel

Does Darren Bravo still warrant an automatic inclusion in the team? He has averaged 36 in ODIs over the last 2 years, and now has a career ODI average of 32.11.

that recent century places him in the automatic pick for the next 10 games! 

Lol.... not the entire team but Fletcher and Jerome should be put to pastures or until Jerome finds some form, Ramdin should be batting at 7 or 8, Benn should be replaced (although he had  a very economical final) and Brathwaite is proving very ineffective.

However Brathwaite, now selected, should be given a run to prove his worth.

Guys like Blackwood and Hope should be featured so I would have a team along the lines (in the absence of Bravo, Gayle, Russell, Simmons etc)

Not sure what Chandrika has done off late but I like his approach, always looking for the gaps, good defence, attacking and always looking to score. seems a good runner and generally good attitude. I think he is a good foil for Charles. Other options are Lewis and lesser so Paint as he may bat 50 overs for 45-50 runs.

3 and 4 stays the same with Blackwood coming in at 5, pollard of Brathwaite in at 6. Pollard has been better in this series, just, as you would expect from a more experienced player. I have been disappointed in Carlitos.

The best keeper in the region coming in at 7 is the best place for him. I recognise he has had a couple of good scores at 5 but that is not his position in my view but the selectors may well be reluctant to move him now.

I have taken a punt at Joseph but in the West Indies I would opt for Badree or possibly Bishoo. However I suspect the former would be ahead in the pecking order.

I would be helpful for Samuels to get his bowling action sorted as he can be invaluable as another spin option.
