NatWest T20 Blast 2016

Darren Sammy and Shahid Afridi have echoed Alex Hales and Jos Buttler's recent comments about needing to play the T20 Blast in a block ala the IPL, CPL and Big Bash leagues.

I do agree that having a tournament played over the space of a month would be better for all involved. It is a bit hard to get into the flow of the tournament when teams play the Royal London Cup and County Championship matches in between.

I like the idea of having two divisions with promotion and relegation. This would ensure that all the county teams can continue on playing T20 cricket. Reducing the tournament to eight or ten teams is going to be a hard sell to the county sides that would miss out.

Whats with that 6 penalty runs for final over delay ??  :-\

Teams have to start the 20th and final over within 75-minutes of the first ball being bowled. If teams fail to do so, 6 penalty runs are assessed (as extras). It is hoped to speed up the game and prevent captain's from dragging out the match.

However, it seems that the penalty runs are assessed at the discretion of the umpires as Hampshire clearly didn't start their final over in time against Kent due to the injury to Sammy.

Heart-breaking loss for Hampshire tonight. Afridi and Sammy almost pulled out an unlikely win. Both hammered the cover off the ball dealing exclusively in boundaries, but fell agonisingly short. That was incredibly fun to watch, just wish they could have got over the line. Still, at least fans got their moneys worth.

Tino Best is a waste .....at least he got Sam Billings back into groove 

Bravo and Rampaul playing for Surrey vs Sammy and Best for Hampshire right now. Hampshire bowlers taking more licks again tonight. No Afridi for Hampshire either.
