WICB Press Release: St. John’s, ANTIGUA - The Board of Director, Management and Staff of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) regret the passing of Trinidadian and West Indian off-spinner, Rangy Nanan.

Nanan was described as a quality off-spinner who served Trinidad and Tobago for almost two decades with distinction, leading them in the Shell Shield in the 1980s. He played in 94 first class matches where he racked up 366 wickets and scored 2,607 runs.

He played one Test for the West Indies in the 1980-81 year versus Pakistan where he took four wickets and scored 16 runs. His bowling figures for the match were 36-7-91-4. West Indies won that match by 156 runs.

After making his first class debut in 1973, he served the TT team as captain from 1984 – 1991. Following his retirement, he served as a police officer, a liaison officer for the West Indies team and was a volunteer for the Cricket World Cup 2007 in the Caribbean. The WICB offers condolences to his family and close friends.

Former T&T captain and off-spinner Rangy Nanan has died at 62.Nanan, passed away at his home here following a period of poor health. He was 62.
A virtual fixture in T&T’s side throughout the decade of the 1980s, off-spinner Nanan played 94 first class matches for the national side, taking 366 wickets at an average of 23.
Nanan was no mug with the bat either, gathered one first class hundred – 125 against Leeward Islands at Guaracara Park in 1983. He also finished with nine half-centuries.
Despite his prowess, Nanan’s international career was limited to one Test, largely because of the West Indies heavy dependence on a four-pronged pace attack during the late 1970s and 80s.
Following an injury to Michael Holding on the four-Test tour of Pakistan in 1980, he was picked for the second Test in Faisalabad, and took two wickets in each innings as West Indies completed a 156-run victory.
He never played again.
Following his playing career, Nanan served as a police officer and was also a liaison officer for the West Indies team.
