1st ODI: South Africa v England at Bloemfontein,

So at the end of it we were robbed of a great South African chase by ... rain!! It is almost comical the way South Africa keep getting shafted by the Duckworth Lewis method; seems they have done something to displease the rain god. They were doing really well staying up with Required Run Rate, although losing 5 wickets meant they were losing momentum. Quinton de Kock is an absolute beast, and for one I am glad he scored a century against someone other than India. I hope these performances get noticed and he becomes a permanent member in the Test team. He is still very young and has a long way to go in international cricket. 9 ODI hundreds in just 53 matches show what great potential he has in future.

From a South African perspective I realised that we should be looking at the bigger picture - South Africa is in the grips of a horrible drought and Bloemfontein has been particularly badly affected. Taking that into account, it was probably worth losing a match if the rain was significant enough to do some good there.

When lives are at stake, sport is hardly the top priority. Sometimes I have a hard time remembering that though and I was as disappointed with the outcome of the match as anyone else. But it's amazing how often cricket brings rain, even to the driest areas. Maybe it would help the drought situation if we played more home games
