It pains me to see how test cricket West Indies cricket has deteriorated over the years. We moved from being number one to a be Just ahead of Bangladesh and Zimbabwe at the moment. The slide has been true throughout, not even a hint of moving back up at any time, just one way down. This situation has me wondering if sometime soon we may be overtaken by we may be overtaken by Bangladesh in the ranking, because it seems at the moment the only direction for the West Indies is down.

Bangladesh have won just the 1 series over the last 3 years, against Zimbabwe. Over this period of 9 series, they also lost 2-0 to the West Indies.

For comparison, over this same period, West Indies have won 2 out 11 series played (against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe).

A year ago, West Indies were on 74 points and Bangladesh 21. Over the last 12 months, West Indies have gained 2 points, Bangladesh 23, though the majority of these points came thanks to the washout series draw with South Africa.

Bangladesh has three series this year; Home versus England and two away series with India and New Zealand.

West Indies can ONLY get better and should resolve to do so.

Even if you narrow it down to the last 12-months, which has more predictive value, despite playing all of their Test matches at home, Bangladesh were the only team not to win a Test match in 2015. While their batting has been solid (playing almost exclusively at home, in Asia, certainly helps them), their bowling has taken a step back. Over the last 12-months, they have a collective bowling average of 53.77. The 12-months prior to that it was 42.34.

Where Bangladesh need to improve, is in the fast bowling department. No Bangladeshi fast bowler has taken more than 7 wickets over the last 2 years, and as a group they have a collective average of 55.16. Mustafizur Rahman looks as though he has serious potential, but otherwise, the fast bowling cupboard is pretty bare for Bangladesh.
