I think it's the over all care free attitude of the younger generation of the region that is hurting cricket. It seems what matters more than winning to the new players is to maintain the perception of the cool, fun guys of cricket. West Indies cricket will have to instill professionalism into the system to start getting positive results. The crowds have nothing to do with the demise and they are not the solution to the problem as well.
