Why cannot Pakistan/India have series similar to the Ashes

I'm not sure why people these days try and turn everything in to a religious debate. The ashes series is an all Christian matchup? Why does that count for anything?

Religion causes enough problems in the world so can we not have something where it doesn't really matter, and can people not just watch and play the sport they love, without having to bring religion into it?
