People don't need facts and figures to see just how good Joe Root is although they do help to prove it

Root playing with players like Cook can only enhance both their games also, so it should be an exciting time for English cricket.

How time flies. It's now been 10 years since Cook made his Test debut. In that time, no batsman has played more matches, scored more runs, hit more fours or scored more fifties. Sangakkara is the only batsman to score more centuries.

He remains 36 runs short of joining the elite 10000 run club.

I might be wrong ...but seem to remember this as when Cookie flew from England (22 hour actual flight time to Australia) and without breaking a sweat or jet lag immediately .... Did this - click

With his score of 81 in the first innings at the Lord's Test, Alastair Cook surpassed Sunil Gavaskar as the all time leading run scorer by an opening batsman in Test cricket. An impressive feat. Congrats, Cooky.

I think I am also correct on insisting with Nick Compton

as I was with Jonny Bairstow over Jos Buttler

but the Selectors disagree....***sigh***

and the 1st TEST result is my vindication  ;)
