Happy birthday to Malinga! I hope to see him in the t20 world cup next year for Sri Lanka and hoping his injuries will be healed by then.

I think that is a little harsh on Malinga and selling him short. He is arguably the greatest death bowler of all time and his numbers also suggest he is the greatest T20 bowler, too.

92 cricketers have taken a minimum of 200 wickets across all formats of the game (Test, ODI, T20), the only bowler with a lower strike rate than Malinga is Shane Bond. His 458 wickets is 26th all time. His average of 28.04 is lower than the likes of Botham, Thomson, Kapil Dev, Anderson, Zaheer Khan and Kallis.

As to not setting any records, he is the only bowler to take three one-day international hat-tricks, the only bowler to have two World Cup hat-tricks and the only player to have taken four wickets in four balls in any form of international cricket.

Not many people dig deep into records like you buddy.
No denying these "records" he has made,but not many would remember him as in the case/likes of Botham/Kapil Dev/Akhtar/Steyn
Maybe his reputation has been marred by his action ? Some people still call him chucker/Pelter.

For me, Malinga is one of the most memorable and recognisable cricketers of the last decade. His pace, slingy action, devastating yorkers and death bowling made him one of the most feared bowlers of this generation, especially in the shorter format of the game.

Everyone who watches cricket will remember Malinga. Nobody has ever been able to churn out pin-point accurate yorkers at will like Malinga. I think only Waqar's inswinging Yorkers were deadlier.

Malinga's been washed up, slow and fat since 2011/12, so his stats have taken a hit, but I can't think of a better Sri Lankan fastman.
