Boom Boom is correct. Rohan said the most effective coach is to help a batsman fine tune his batting. You cannot change the big things...that tree is already bent! A coach has to find subtle ways of helping a player improve.
In contract, that jackass we have coach was telling Shiv how to bat!!! When Shiv needs help, he knows who to ask!! Shiv's coach is Rohan!! Here is Shiv: "Rohan Kanhai corrected a few flaws I had earlier in my batting technique, and I will never forget the advice he gave me. He really knows the game, and can impart a lot of knowledge to many young cricketers. I also think he is a batting genius."
Thats how you coach someone!

Did Powell need a COACH to know Tarzan had already scored 10 runs in 5 balls and he should NOT slog de 6th ball of the over ?
Did Tarzan know he had to stay there and not OUT de following over after Powell ?
Whaddabout LiL Lara ? why the need to get caught at a short mid wicket ?
A Coach needed to tell Sammy NOT to slog to deep backward square ?

Coaches sit on couches spewing a cache of cacophony .. Totally useless.
Most coaches were second rate cricketers and therefore and they has nothing to impart to cricketers.
Opiss , a good example

great thread. I now see it.
my argument is that there is nothing for a HC to do in cricket save muck up the proceedings, he have to carve out a job that does not exists so he effs everything up trying to secure a place for the job
cricket is not a game for a HC. thats all there is to it.
the seem ICC to be trying to turn the game into a one day truncated major league affair to reap super profits like baseball and basketball etc. so deh putting up separate pieces hoping to push them all together soon and presto we have a major league 20/20... complete with head coach patrolling the side lines
all deh have to do is leave the dam game in peace to evolve properly as it has been doing..before they start apply neo liberal exploitative pressure to it..just about killing the dam game.
every thing has its natural potential. leave it be or you will destroy the dam thing

the manager is the man in cricket..by designation the type or administrator that fits the administration of the game on the field
by evolution the roles..the line of separation between the job of manager and captain.. naturally developed to produce the perfect administrative set up. I mean what the hell can one ask for than how the lines of responsibility between captain and skipper evolved in cricket.
and dem greedy bureaucratic skunt and dem discarded that for a HC, who has been nutten but trouble since..a ridiculously expensive and disruptive imposition on the sweet old civilised game
