Mr. Thakur is lying through him teeth. How many Test series have India played against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in recent years? Over the last 5 years, India have played Bangladesh only once and have not played a Test series against Zimbabwe since 2005.

Of course, this is all a red herring any way, as teams are free to schedule matches against any teams they so wish outside of their regularly scheduled tier matches.

It looks as though the Asian boards are bonding together and voting no as a group.

72% of international players surveyed by FICA support two divisions in Tests

FICA found that :

52% of all international respondents in the current structure still indicated that they would consider rejecting a national contract in favour of free agency in domestic T20 leagues.

70% of all respondents think there should be "ring fenced" windows in the calendar
for certain domestic T20 events to prevent clashes with international cricket.

75% of all respondents think that closing the wage gap between domestic T20 and international cricket would help to retain players in international cricket.

One other aspect that Mr. Thakur's comments overlook - and this pertains to the players as well - is that by introducing two tiers, you would be granting Test status to two more sides. So if the BCCI really cared about the smaller nations as they so claim, they would be in favour of expanding Test cricket to include countries such as Ireland and Afghanistan.

Mr. Thakur is also overlooking the fact that players have gone on record expressing their desires for wanting to have meaningful Test matches. As things currently stand, there is no real incentive for fans to turn up to the grounds or watch on TV a meaningless match between Sri Lanka and West Indies, but if you were to introduce a two-tier system then suddenly both teams are fighting for promotion to the top tier and interest is increased - increasing both TV revenues and also ticket sales.

In a way the two-tier Test system is already there with no1wanting to play Zimbabwe and Indo-Pak not playing, this is just formalising it
