Let us look at the Top 5 test playing countries and the number of bowlers for each country who average less than 30 and the number of bowlers who average between 30 and 33.
RANK
COUNTRY----Bowl AVG < 30
Bowl AVG 30-33
#1
SA
3
0
#2
IND
1
2
#3
ENG
0
3
#4
PAK
1
1
#5
AUS
3
0
........................
#7
WI
1
0
OBSERVATION:
* 4 of the top 5 ranked countries have 3 bowlers who average less than 33.
* #1 ranked SA and #5 ranked AUS both have 3 bowlers who average less than 30
* #7 ranked WI has only 1 bowler with an average less than 33.
THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE FOLKS
* The West Indies need to find at least 2 bowlers who average between 30 and 33.
* They already have one(Roach) who averages below 30---he is currently injured.
* If the WI can field in addition to Roach 2 more bowlers who average 30-33----they will be a competitive team again.
* Right now Rampaul averages 34.79 and Taylor averages 35.64.
* If a new bowler like Jason Holder can average between 30 and 33----that would be a good find for the WI.
Once again---in order to be a Top 5 test team the WI needs to field 1 bowler who averages less than 30 and 2 bowlers who average between 30 and 33.
* 1 + 2 = 3
* 2 + 1 = 3
* 3 + 0 = 3
* Simple Arithmetic --- 3 bowlers who average less than 33 needed to be a Top 5 team.

Shows a lot of promise ... (tall fast bowler reminiscent of long gone victory days)
Holder and Santokie need support and nurturing .... apart from Ambi's input, don't think they'll get it from the clueless US$300k man !!!

LET'S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT JASON HOLDER
http://www.espncricinfo.com/inline/content/image/638526.html?alt=1
* In 18 first class matches Jason Holder has taken 51 wickets at an average of 21.21
* Jason Holder has not yet played tests.
* But in 12 onedayers he has taken 17 wickets at an average of 27.88
www.espncricinfo.com/westindies/content/player/391485.html
CONCLUSION:
Jason Holder clearly has the potential to develop into a test bowler who can average less than 33----and of course, if he is outstanding he'll average less than 30.

The fall :-[
The drop-in pitch at Eden Park - grown in a huge metal tray and hauled to the centre on a custom-made giant trolley -
is a great example of smart heavy engineering going hand-in-hand with computer-based technologies.
Was it seamless ? Jason Holder might not agree.
Holder's foot was caught in the joint between the pitch and the field in his seventh over,
resulting in a nasty face-first fall for the tall bowler.
Fortunately for him, he didn't do any serious damage to himself

A CLOSER LOOK AT RAVI RAMPAUL----his last 3 years in Tests
https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRWRhHmaBDz5n3qq94AFRUMxPZl7w65lowHEqKb8Y32Ip2SwittVA
* Since Jan 2011, Ravi Rampaul has played in 13 tests---he has taken 45 wickets at an average of 28.13.
* Rampaul's problem has been staying fit.
* But his bowling average has been below 30 the last 3 years.

PS. Why did coach Gibson and the selectors omit Rampaul from the test team against NZ---he was clearly fit
Gibson is a moron---he has no business coaching the West Indies.

* A fit Roach---his bowling average is less than 30
* A Fit Rampaul---his bowling average has been below 30 the past 3 years
* A newbie like Jason Holder whose first class bowling average is below 30.
* And spinner Sunil Philip Narine
Anytime the WI can field those 4 in their team----they'll put up a good fight.

Yes. Always play your best men.
You also need to factor in breakdowns. A secondary battalion of bowlers must always be in the rotation, preferably Santokie, Badree, and a left arm pacer, two of which we have coming up, Sheldon Cottrel and Delorn Johnson, both of whom I haven't seen much off. Left arm pace troubles the modern batsman tremendously. What you think of Miguel Cummins?
