kudos to shiv it certainly did not come easy. there were times that he was heavily critisized for his akward batting stance. some critics even called it crablike which in my opinoin is somewhat negative. however, shiv has held steady, something almost every one of his west indian contempory has not been able to do, and he is now reaping the fruits of his dedication and determination to his game.
hold strong shiv.

Have to give the Baboolal my vote. The excitement and entertainment that he provided made him a magnet when he stepped to the crease, can't say the same for Shiv. I am not too sure but I don't think there used to be a ICC player of the year in Kanhai's time. One thing is for sure both Kanhai and Shiv put runs on the table unfortunately for Shiv (and this will probably go against him) he is playing in a time when West Indies cricket is taking a beating.

When it comes to style, elegance, attractiveness and excitement , Shiv takes a back seat to many Guyanese batsmen. But when it comes to longevity and production, when it comes to grit and determination, no Guyanese batsmen can match Shivnarine Jackie Robinson Chanderpaul. Absolutely none.
* No Guyanese batsman ever scored 10,000 runs in tests until Shiv----he is now at 11,199
* No Guyanese batsman ever averaged 50 in tests until Shiv---he currently averages 52.02
* I can go on and on.
BOTTOM LINE:
Everyone has his or her own opinion and judgment about who is the best---and is entitled to his or her opinion and judgment----but the numbers don't lie folks---and Shiv has put up numbers like no other Guyanese batsman. He is the absolute best in the numbers game. Shiv just surpassed the great Australian Alan Border(11,174)---the great Brian Lara(11,953) is next.

PS. Rohan Kanhai is my favorite player of all time.

It will be interesting to seek out the pundits’ view on whether Chanderpaul has now supplanted Rohan Kanhai and Clive Lloyd as the best batsman this country has ever produced.
Kanhai, of the famous falling down hook shot has widely been regarded as the best batsman from Guyana, at least, in test cricket with Lloyd a close second.

Shiv is 2nd Best...to the Babulall!
Shiv's numbers are greater and he played longer but the Babu played in a different era and dominated...er entertained:)
Never saw Rohan bat but my family said he was the absolute best. If Kahnai wanted to play for stats he could...he chose to define his legacy another way ...as an absolute destroyer of fast bowling...in my book that's better.
When the West Indies had better bowlers, you didn't need that much runs to win. I wonder how Rohan would have batted if he was in Shiv's team...
Anyhow, Shiv is great and what he's doing at age 39 is absolutely fantastic...keep it going Shiv...build those stats and legacy my friend.

WHO IS THE BEST BATSMAN ?
* That question makes for a good argument or debate.
* And that is because the answer will always be a subjective one.
* It's like looking at Lord Krishna, Jesus, and Prophet Mohamed and asking who was the best.
* Hindus will choose Lord Krishna; Christians will choose Jesus and Muslims will choose Prophet Mohamed.
* There is no right answer.
Of course, if you are like the Rev---my answer is all that matters to me---I really don't care what other think or feel---although I respect their right to their opinion and judgment.
