West Indies captain Dwayne Bravo did not even try to put on a stoic face about losing batsman Chris Gayle for the rest of the India series, saying it was the 'worst' possible thing to happen to them.
Gayle tore his hamstring while being run out in the first ODI in Kochi, and was ruled out of the rest of the three-match series, and possibly for the Tests against New Zealand. The Windies lost the match by six wickets, failing to defend a paltry 211

The skipper said: "Losing Chris (Gayle) is the worst to happen to us on the tour. He is our best player. He is no longer available for the series and that is a big blow for us.
"Psychologically, also it is not good for us. Before we landed in India, we lost Kieron Pollard and now we lost Chris and they are two of our best players."
Bravo refused to blame Gayle's injury, or the pitch, for his side's poor batting effort, saying both sides had to play on the same track and India were far superior, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli putting on a century stand.
He added: "The pitch is the same for both the teams. I think we lost the momentum. The India bowlers are good and they have applied themselves well. 211 was not a good enough total for a team to win an ODI.
"Our batters did not perform to our expectations. We have to work on our batting."

* How can losing Gayle be disastrous ?
* Is Bravo aware of Gayle's performance in onedayers the last 2 years ?
* In 27 onedayers the last 2 years Gayle has averaged an ordinary 25.23
BOTTOM LINE:
With or without Gayle, Bravo and his pathetic team will be clobbered by India in the remaining matches
and deservedly so.

what is disastrous is Bravos answer or response to the Gayle development. theses are always equally possible as any other development in all of life...and we truly do not have an inkling whether they are good or bad flows..or as we call flows - luck!
Bravo as a man of any decent level of intelligence, experience and wisdom would know this and his response as it must would to circle up the wagons using what available to maximum effect in response to the challenges at hand.
Bravo's response makes it is clear,he had already accepted defeat, even before gayle went down, for gayle has been nothing like himself over at least half a year now and as a thinking man Bravo should have been hard-pressed to expect any significant improvement anytime soon from Gayle, given that his lack of production suggests full and irreversible decline.
I am afraid in Bravo we do have something of a leader but not much of one.
the other side of Bravos personality is party and frivolity, and at the moment he may talk a good cricket game but the rot at the heart of west indies cricket resides skids his feet, which suggests a sense of flight on his part, a readiness to flee at a moment's notice.
nothing to commit to and sacrifice would be his sense of things with a preparedness to shift immediately over into his alternatives, like an entertainment career....at a moments notice
